A Thug's Redemption

How cool is it that Yo! Raps Magazine decided to do an article on my debut novel “A Thug’s Redemption”? Super freaking cool! I remember seeing Yo! Raps Magazines and seeing pictures of hip-hop artists being taped to my sister’s wall when I was a kid. I would quickly read through some of the articles while standing in line with mom in the old Shop-N-Bag on Girard Avenue as a kid while I waited for her to finish paying for our groceries. I never imagined in a million years that one day an article about me would be done by them. Just to get a preview of what the article said about me, here are a few snippets.

“A Thug’s Redemption” is about a young Black male named Jamal who decides to take matters into his own hands by avenging his best friend’s murder. He is forced into the street life, forever in debt to his cousin Samir, one of Philadelphia’s biggest drug lords…”
 
“The book was inspired by a friend of Yani who was killed at the age of 14 in the streets of Philadelphia. The story doesn’t glorify drugs, sex, and the violence that has plagued inner city Philly. It tells the story of the protagonist Jamal, a young man who was just caught up in the streets behind a poor decision that he made and he was trying hard to make amends with his past…”
